JS PortoColom Suites

Overall, our experience at JS Portocolom Suites has been rather disappointing given its recognition as a four star hotel. Location - Portocolom itself is lovely and very peaceful, but it’s definitely more for people with children or those who enjoy quieter settings. In all honesty, there’s not much to do besides walking, and there’s only one beach nearby (Cala Marçal), which is pretty but quite small. Accommodation closer to Palma may suit those who are more interested in exploring the city, with variable attractions shops, restaurants etc. Rooms - very basic and does not come with coffee/tea making facilities. Recommend bringing a travel kettle to avoid the cost of renting one. Only pros were that the bed is comfy and shower is very powerful. Views aren’t the best and can be noisy at times if your room/balcony faces the main roads and games area (where there are often people playing air hockey, snooker, claw machines, etc.). Importantly, it's worth mentioning that the WiFi was terrible, and I resorted to using mobile data most of the time. The TV and phone in the room did not work at all, only the main tv in the lounge area of the suite which was placed ridiculously high on the wall you would need to strain your neck. Cleanliness - various aspects that were questionable including the towels looking like they aren’t washed properly, they don’t change bedding, and to our surprise, ants festering in various nooks and crannies in the room. When we raised this with the front desk, the member of staff was not surprised in the slightest and implied there wasn’t much they could do - insinuating that they were attracted to food (despite us not having any kind of food out in the open - we kept fruit in the minifridge). We did ask if it was possible to move rooms but she maintained ants were unavoidable no matter what floor you’re on, which itself is a red flag. The cleaning lady did apparently do something to the area with more ant activity but we still found the odd couple in places like the sofa and along the countertop. Food - breakfast variety was not great, pretty much same thing everyday and it was all cold. Dinner was hardly an improvement, although there was fresh fish cooked by the chefs daily, it was quite bland and I could say the same about the rest of the food - very much lacking flavour. Generally speaking, this hotel is not suited to foodies who like to try new things. Pool, gym & other amenities - pool was big, always had a lifeguard on site, we went off peak so there were plenty of sunbeds, but it could probably get quite busy during the school holidays. The gym was very basic, AC was never on and there was only one treadmill - and that was faulty.

The hotel is nicely decorated and very clean with good facilities. The walls between rooms are very thin and it was hard to sleep due to sounds from neighbouring rooms. I was disappointed that there were babies and young children in the adults only spa facilities every time I used them (4 times during my stay). The resort is very family friendly.

Very clean, staff very friendly and approachable. Reception staff informative and helpful. Room spacious and modern, our maid was excellent. Pool clean and maintained. Sauna top notch, my husband loved it. Pool bar, some staff not sure how to make certain drinks. Evening entertainment unusual acts not as good as we would have hoped. Not many tourists, which we prefer, quiet , nice to walk around.

Upon arrival my husband, I and our two friends were very impressed with the hotel. The suites were lovely - it was very nice to have a separate living area. The pool and surrounding areas was very nice too although we noticed that parts of the pool need some repairs. The indoor pool and spa area was lovely too. The restaurant and outside seating area, again, was lovely and we had no complaints about the food although, as we were there for two weeks, it was repetitive but to be expected. Drinks prices were very reasonable, apart from soft drinks and water. It is a shame that the hotel does not provide somewhere to fill cups or water bottles during the day. We were not allowed to take our own bottled water into the restaurant for dinner which was not really a problem for us as we bought wine/beer with our meals. However, if you did only want water we felt the charge for a bottle of water was expensive. Most of the staff in the hotel were friendly and seemed happy in their work, with the exception of one young lady waitress who didn't really smile as she worked! Also, it was a shame that the indoor bar was not open for the purchase of drinks or hot drinks as in our second week we had a bad weather day and ended up buying coffee in a local cafe whereas we probably would have spent that money in the hotel indoor bar had it been open. We didn't ask why it was closed for drinks and upon reflection it would have been nice if JS Hotels could have informed TUI that this facility would not be available. The area of Porto Colom is relatively quiet but still has enough places to walk to, including the beach which was beautiful. There are shops and a couple of local supermarkets which are easy to find. Overall, we were all very happy with our hotel choice for this year's holiday and would recommend it to others.

We (my husband, I and our 18 year old daughter) have just returned from our stay at JS Portocolom Suites. and we had a fantasitc time. The hotel was great, I had read the reviews before I went, so hoped it would be as nice and it totally met and even exceeded our expectations. I will only echo what others have said - the hotel is very clean, spacious, great friendly staff - special mentions to Paula and Maria at reception for helping with our queries about the area , and Jose in the restaurant who was very friendly and made you very welcome. Also to a lady chef in the resttuarant - I am sorry I forgot her name- who brought my husband who is coeliac gluten free bread every morning - thank you! The food was great and had plenty of choice- plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, local products. I ate fish every day which was freshly cooked, but there were several meat options available too. The houmus with fried tortilla chips was one of our favourites!! If I was to make one improvement, I would suggest to make it more obvious that gluten free options are available, because we only found out accidently that they are. Facilities - I didn't use any extra facilities - ie. gym or spa , so can't comment on those, haven't used the pool much either but it looked very nice with plenty of sunbeds. Location: 10 min walk (some uphill, but usually plenty of shade) to the nearest beach Cala Marcal beach which is stunning, although quite small and can get busy especially during the weekend. The whole area is a perfect place to relax and unwind, or do some walking or take trip out. . There is a bus stop on the square outside of the hotel, we took a bus to Cala D'Or (about 15 min), which is a bigger resort, with lots of shops and restaurants, but very busy. There are some nice walks around Portocolom. If you have a car, or don't mind a longer walk visit another beach- S'Arenal, it is about an hour walk at a leisurely pace - but you'll see lots of beautiful views on the way and can stop at one of the restaurants in the harbour for a refreshing drink,/snack and there is a lovely boarded walk through the pine forest. We did a few trips including a trip to Sanctuary of Sant Salvador - 14th century monastery located 510 above the sea level- amazing! views! it is located in the town of Felanitx, about 15 min by car/taxi. I could go on and on about the area, please feel free to message me if you need some recommendations on what to do in the area! The hotel is perfect to explore this beautiful part of the island. Thank you agian to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant. We really enjoyed our stay and are hoping to return again.
